Eddy the Blob is the mascot I use for freelance and personal creative work. He started as a basic animated character I used at university when I was learning 3D animation, and has since become my icon, logo, and mascot.

While I was freelancing I had him professionally drawn into as a logo, with the circuit board background added and a variety of colour options including Willshaw Media’s grey/blue pallette.

The idea was to carry on animating and using Eddy as the protagonist in animations and video games, but I never got very far with any of it.

For many years I’ve just used the blue and grey version for everything. Recently though, I’ve switched back to original red Eddy for personal identification, and blue Eddy for anything Willshaw Media related. The main kicker was how hard it is to tell which Google account I’m currently using.

And this here, is where it all started. Incredibly simple, not very good animation of Eddy standing on a landmine (grim, I know, I was young).

This gave me a chance to model walking, add a background, play with camera angles, animated text, and scaling on the terrible pointy explosion.
